CinEast 2012 presents a closer look on the work of the following artists and production companies:

 

György Pálfi

György Pálfi (born in 1974 in Budapest) is one of Hungary's most talented and internationally recognised contemporary directors. He drew international attention with his writer-director feature debut Hukkle, while his second feature, Taxidermia (shown at CinEast 2008), quickly became known for its kinkiness and violence. His last movie Final Cut-Ladies and Gentlemen closed the Cannes Classics selection of this year's festival and is on its way to become a cult movie. more info

Gyorgy Pálfi is a member of the jury of CinEast 2012 and will be present at the screening of Final Cut on 26 October.

Robert Wiêckiewicz

Robert Wiêckiewicz (born in 1967) is a Polish theatre, film and television actor, a graduate of State Drama College in Wroclaw. With four recent Best Actor awards from Warsaw IFF and Gdynia FF for his roles in the films All Will Be Well (2007), Little Rose (2011) and In Darkness (2012), he has now become one of the most remarkable Polish actors, his latest role being Lech Walêsa in the biopic of the same name. CinEast has been following his career quite closely, screening The Dark House, Little Rose and In Darkness in previous festival editions. This year the spectators will have the opportunity to evaluate Robert's talent in both comedy and drama.

Michal Hogenauer

Michal Hogenauer (born in 1984 in Prague) is a young talented Czech director. His work as a stand-in for Elijah Wood in Everything is Illuminated inspired him to study directing at Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) where he graduated with a thesis about Michael Haneke's film language and bachelor film Children Watching Night Trains. Tambylles, his second film, was recently recognized by the Cannes film festival organizers as one of the top entries from around the world in its category. He works as programmer of Prague's Fresh Film Fest. more info
Michal Hogenauer will be present at the screening of both of his films on 20 October.

Staragara

Staragara is currently the most successful Slovenian film production company. It was established in 2003 by directors Janez Burger and Jan Cvitkoviè, originally with the aim of producing their own works. Since then Staragara has expanded its field of activity through international coproductions to production of short, documentary and TV films as well as production of contemporary dance projects, experimental and commercial theatre and commercials. more info

Jan Cvitkoviè will be present at the screening of Archeo on 16 October.

Studio Uljana Kim

Studio Uljana Kim is a Vilnius-based production and distribution company founded in 1997 by the Kyrgyzstan-born film critic Uljana Kim and focusing on the production of feature as well as documentary films. The company has produced numerous award-winning films, including The Courtyard (Quinzaine des réalisateurs, Cannes 1999), The Lease (Venice 2002), You am I (Un Certain regard, Cannes 2006), Back to Your Arms (Oscars candidate) and Fortress of the Sleeping Butterflies (Best Lithuanian film of 2011). more info

Uljana Kim and director Kristijonas Vildžiunas will be present at the screening of Back to Your Arms on 14 October.
