PRAGUE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE SECRET POLICE

Prague through the Lense of the Secret PolicePrague through the Lense of the Secret Police

Exhibition of photographs taken by the Czechoslovak Secret Police in 1970s and 80s

The exhibition "Prague through the Lens of the Secret Police" features a selection of photographs and a short video recording taken by servicemen of the Czechoslovak (communist) Secret Police's (StB) Surveillance Directorate between 1969-89 in Prague, as well as complementary explanatory texts in English and Czech. The photos capture not only persons of interest but also the unique atmosphere of Prague during the "normalisation" era of hard-line socialist entrenchment in the 1970s and 80s, following the Soviet-led occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968. The exhibition, created by the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes (Czech Rep.), is organised in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Luxembourg in the framework of the Festival's cycle "20 years after the fall of the Berlin wall" which marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of totalitarian regimes in the countries of Central Europe.
