The true story of a man with a troubled past who saved a group of Jews from certain death by hiding them for over a year in an underground hideout. Initially he did it for money but gradually he experiences their drama and their suffering and becomes another man. Not only does he give them back their money, he also takes significant risks in order to help them, and even splits up with his wife, who finds his involvement too committing and too dangerous. A moving story in which the extreme conditions of war reveal the all the strenghts and the weakness of the characters.
